Purpose:

Gonzaga University is a signatory to the Real Food Challenge, a commitment to ensure that our food system is healthy, fair, and sustainable.

The Real Food Challenge Calculator Researcher will work closely with members of Real Food Gonzaga, and the Real Food Challenge Food Systems Working Group.

Duties:

•Research the food products sold on campus and evaluate which ones qualify as Local, Humane, Fair-Trade, or Ecologically Sound according to strict guidelines set forth by the nationally recognized program, the Real Food Challenge (RFC).

•Once research is complete, determine the “Real Food Percentage,” which states what percent of food on campus is considered Real Food under RFC guidelines.

•Working closely with dining staff, faculty, local farmers, other students, and the RFC in helping shift purchases toward more Real Food products.

•Analyze collected data by searching for potential opportunities for growth in the “Real Food Percentage.”

•Subject to funding and scheduling, attend a Real Food Challenge regional summit. 

•Participate in a training from the Regional Real Food Challenge Organizer.
